If you’re curious about my work in Somatic Experiencing® and Internal Family Systems, this page is for you.
Somatic Experiencing® - Who I work with
I support women and children aged 7 and above who are experiencing the impacts of trauma, overwhelm, burnout, or unexplained psychosomatic symptoms. For therapeutic somatic work to be meaningful and beneficial, there needs to be enough safety and stability established before our work begins.
Intentions of Somatic Experiencing
Trauma occurs when our nervous system continues to respond to a threat that is no longer present. This can leave you living in a state of reactivity to an experience that belongs in the past, as the body continues to perceive a threat and send messages of danger. In our sessions, we create experiences to contradict the trauma, using the "felt sense" to bring awareness to involuntary systems and restore your nervous system's natural capacity to regulate.
My intention is to support you in reconnecting with your body and innate inner wisdom. By starting with the body and nervous system to create foundational safety, we can allow for lasting change in beliefs and emotional wellbeing.
The Process of Somatic Experiencing®
Developing the "Felt Sense":
Building your capacity to understand the internal sensations and feelings held within the body.
Building Inner Resources:
Cultivating your ability to connect with safety and comfort, so you are not overwhelmed by challenging symptoms.
Titration and Pendulation:
Working in slow, manageable steps to ensure the nervous system is not overwhelmed, allowing for the safe release of stored survival energy.
Completion and Integration:
Integrating new experiences into the nervous system.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) - Who I work with
I see women and children aged 7 and above who have experienced adverse life experiences, stress, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, and relational challenges.
For individuals who have experienced trauma, I recommend that for therapeutic work to be meaningful and beneficial, there needs to be enough safety and stability established before our work begins.
Intentions of Internal Family Systems (IFS)
IFS supports you to explore their inner experiences with the intention to unblend from patterns of behaviour, thoughts and feelings that are working really hard to protect vulnerability. In IFS, we call these “parts” and they form over time to help protect and manage our lives. Parts are formed at any time of life, but particularly in our younger years. IFS helps you to get to know your parts and inner landscape in more detail, to develop more wisdom, inner awareness and compassion towards yourself.
