"Trauma is not in the event, it's in the nervous system" - Peter Levine
Thank you for your interest in Somatic Experiencing therapy sessions. I see clients experiencing trauma, PTSD, complex early trauma, attachment injury (including anxious attachment, avoidant attachment, anxious avoidant and disorganised attachment), anxiety, chronic health conditions and diseases, depression, overwhelm, burnout, fatigue and other unwanted or unexplained bodily experiences or sensations. Sessions work on a mental, emotional, physical, energetic and spiritual level.
I am currently completing my advanced level training in Somatic Experiencing and I am available for sessions in person in the Byron Bay and Northern New South Wales region or online, Australia Wide.
As a somatic therapist I support you to regulate your nervous system with self-regulation tools. I do this by tracking your nervous system with you and support you to identify and slow down nervous system patterns. We do this by building your capacity to understand your "felt sense" of sensations and feelings that are held within the body. We build your capacity to have positive internal experiences, so that you aren't so overwhelmed by challenging internal symptoms and sensations. This may include the safe release of stored survival energy that has been held within the body.
Trauma occurs when our nervous system responds to a threat that is no longer there, this means that we can live in a state of reactivity to a stimulus that belongs in the past. Our nervous system continues to perceives a threat when the threat has gone. Our body thinks the treat is still current and continues to send the message of threat. In somatic therapy sessions we create experiences to contradict the trauma, we use the felt sense to bring awareness to involuntary systems and survival responses so we can use it to slow down reactivity and restore the nervous system's capacity to regulate. I support you to do this with co-regulation, I track your nervous system with you and put the breaks on your nervous system patterns with somatic regulation strategies.
Somatic Experiencing can provide treatment for a range of experiences of trauma including but not limited to surgeries, anesthesia, motor vehicle accidents, falls, shock trauma, war, physical violence and abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, attachment injuries and abandonment, intergenerational trauma, systemic and racial trauma.
I'm an NDIS provider and I see clients for a range of psychosocial disabilities, including chronic illness, syndromes, disease, mental health needs, mobility issues, nervous system disorders and trauma including developmental and attachment-based trauma.
If you are in a Somatic Experiencing session, please click through to the contact page tab and submit an enquiry. I respond to website enquiries within 1-2 days.
